Student Spotlight: Nelson Lopez

Nelson Lopez obtained his Bachelor in Electronic Engineering in Venezuela and since then, his work experience and background have always been in IT. He lived for 5 years in Chile and worked in a company present in South America named Cencosun. Nelson worked as System Engineer and Project Manager. He has also obtained the Microsoft Modern Desktop Administrator certification. In addition to his IT profile, Nelson is a professional musician and plays the bass guitar.

Why did you enrol in the Applied MSc Data Analytics?

When I started my research on the data field, I was fascinated by the
Data Analyst’s skills and job duties in a company. I realised that I would be able to contribute a lot on different projects if I combined my work experience with this role.

Is there a course that you would like to spotlight?

I’ve learned so many things since the start of the programme.
The Applied MSc in Data Analytics includes various courses from Databases to Project Management. We also learn to code using Python. So far, the R for Big Data course is my favourite.

Describe your experience as an off-campus student at DSTI.

Due to the pandemic, we started to digitalise all areas from education to almost any company, it’s my first time taking online classes and I have to say that it has been such an incredible experience, from DSTI staff to teacher’s are all so good, they take care of everything in classes, paper work, etc.

What are your future aspirations for your career?

I would like to work in a company in which I can contribute to meaningful projects and develop my skills at the same time. The data field is new to me, but I can’t wait to meet new challenges!

Do you have any advice for students who would like to join the Applied MSc in Data Analytics?

DSTI will help you acquire the knowledge needed in order to become an expert in Data Analytics. Do not hesitate to join the programme!
