Artificial Intelligence Engineer job description

Are you passionate about digital technology? Are you interested in the fields of Machine Learning and Deep Learning? Discover the job of Artificial Intelligence engineer.

The development of new digital technologies has led to the emergence of new training and jobs. This is particularly true of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) professions.

If you are passionate about Machine Learning or Deep Learning, the job of Artificial Intelligence Engineer is for you!

What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the development of theories, methods and techniques to develop algorithms that simulate human intelligence.

The aim of Artificial Intelligence is to create machines capable of recording, learning, and analysing data in order to predict events, trends, etc.

Companies are increasingly using Artificial Intelligence to make predictions about their customers’ behaviour, trends and changing habits. This allows them to improve their decision making, production strategy and thus increase their turnover.

This is a real revolution! Today’s machines are capable of processing a very large volume of data of great complexity and quickly.

Among the branches of AI, we find, for example, Machine Learning or Deep Learning, whose aim is to enable robots to learn autonomously. Automated vehicles are based on these new technologies.

AI continues to progress and this is not going to stop. More and more sectors are using these new technologies, including health, cybersecurity, finance, industry, etc.

The person responsible for Artificial Intelligence within an organisation is the Artificial Intelligence Engineer.

The role of the Artificial Intelligence Engineer

The Artificial Intelligence Engineer is an IT expert whose mission is to develop intelligent algorithms capable of learning, analysing and predicting future events. Their role is to create machines capable of reasoning like the human brain.

The AI engineer is therefore also a researcher: he or she analyses the functioning of the human brain in order to build computer programs with the same cognitive abilities as humans.

The Artificial Intelligence engineer can specialise in different areas such as Machine Learning or Deep Learning, which are derived from AI. Machine Learning is based on algorithms and decision trees, while Deep Learning is based on neural networks.

(To learn more about these two areas of AI and what makes them different, you can read the following articles: link).

Let’s take the example of a company that sells beauty products. Being able to predict the beauty trends and preferences of its customers would allow the company to target their expectations more effectively. The company would see its sales soar and its profitability increase.

The mission of the Artificial Intelligence Engineer is to develop algorithms that receive input data on the history of purchases, sales and products in order to predict future customer behaviour.

As you can see, the Artificial Intelligence Engineer is a position that is highly valued by companies.

Artificial Intelligence Engineer skills

The Artificial Intelligence Engineer has a rigorous, analytical and creative mind. They must be reactive, good listeners and have a team spirit.

These technical skills are very broad and diversified. This AI expert has in-depth knowledge of computer science, programming languages, automated systems and the development of AI algorithms holds no secrets for him/her.  He has a strong interest in mathematics and statistics.

How to become an Artificial Intelligence Engineer?

To become an Artificial Intelligence Engineer, a postgraduate degree or professional experience is required. The priviliged educational background is usually mathematics, computer science or an engineering degree.

Data ScienceTech Institute offers high quality RNCP certified (Master’s level) Applied MSc programmes in the field of Artificial Intelligence.

In particular, the Applied MSc in Data Science & Artificial Intelligence which is delivered entirely in English. The programme is offered on a full-time basis, on-campus or online, with 800 hours of classes. Students attend 9 months of classes and complete 5 to 6 months of internship in a company. This Applied MSc is designed to open up career opportunities in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

The Data Science & AI programme is delivered full-time from the Sophia-Antipolis and Paris campuses (5h/day on average), online or in SPOC mode (at your own pace and with a continuous intake).

In the Applied MSc programme, you will learn how to:

  • Develop your knowledge of mathematics applied to data science and artificial intelligence.
  • Immerse yourself in the heart of algorithms of artificial intelligence
  • Use your scientific skills to assist in the analysis, design, implementation, and surveillance of IT and big data architecture
  • Combine science and technology in application courses and projects that relate to the world of data science in business.
  • Learn about IT project management and the legal implications of data processing, and analyse its ethical implications.

Artificial Intelligence Engineer salary

The salary of a junior AI engineer is around €2,000 per month. After two or three years of experience, the salary increases to €3,500 per month.

senior AI engineer earns about €5,000 per month, i.e. €60,000 per year.
